PSE/PSC Certification Mandatory Products

The PSC/PSE mark is a mandatory safety and EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) approval for electrical products sold on the Japanese market. Currently there are 457 products that have been designated pursuant to the DENAN act. The products are divided into Category A (Specified Products) and Category B (Non-Specified Products).

Category A product groups that need a PSE Diamond Mark:

• Cables and Cords
  • Rubber Insulated Cables and Cords
  • Synthetic Insulated Cables and Cords
• Fuses
• Wiring Devices
• Current Limiters
• Transformers, Ballasts
• Electric Heating Appliances
• Electric Motor-operated or Magnetically Driven Appliances
• Electronic Appliances
• Portable Engine Generators

Category B product groups that need a PSE Circle Mark:

• Cables and Cords
  • Rubber Insulated Cables and Cords
  • Synthetic Insulated Cables and Cords
• Conduits
  • Metal Conduits
  • Plastic Conduits
• Fuses
• Wiring Devices
• Transformers and Ballasts
• Small AC Electric Motors
• Electric Heating Appliances
• Electric Motor-Operated or Magnetically Driven Appliances
• Appliances Using Light Sources
• Electronic Appliances
• AC Electric Appliances
• Lithium-Ion Batteries

Nearly all consumer products sold in Japan need a PSC marking. Products designated as Special Specified Products or Specified Products need to be marked.

• Portable Lasers
• Cribs for Infants
• Hot Water Circulators for Baths
• Lighters

Specified Products:

• Pressure Cookers
• Helmets (for Motorized Bicycles or Motorcycles)
• Climbing Ropes
• Oil Heaters
• Oil Water Heaters
• Oil Bath Boilers
