Japan RoHS

Manufactures and Importers  of certain types of products for the Japanese market are required to make sure their products are in compliance with the Japan RoHS Law for Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources in Japan (Japanese Recycling Law) and the compulsory Industry Standard JIS C 0950: The Marking for presence of the specific chemical substances for electronic equipment (J-MOSS). These 7 types of products include:

  • Personal computers
  • Unit-type air conditioners
  • Television sets
  • Refrigerators
  • Washing machines
  • Clothes dryers
  • Microwaves

Japan RoHS Product Compliance can be assured through Self-Declaration. Testing in third-party laboratories is not necessary.

The following hazardous substances and their concentration are under restriction:

  • Cadmium (Cd) and its compounds: 0.01%;
  • Mercury and its compounds: 0.1%;
  • Lead (Pb) and its compounds : 0.1%;
  • Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) and its compounds: 0.1%;
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB): 0.1 %;
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): 0.1 %.

If the requirements are met the product can voluntarily be marked with a “G-Mark” also called J-Moss-Mark. If the requirements are not met it is mandatory to mark the product with a “R-Mark”. Furthermore, these products have to be marked on the manufacturers and importers website.
