The JIS Mark is a mandatory certification based on product certification that verifies the conformity of products according to the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). JIS covers industrial and mineral products, data, services and management systems under the Industrial Standardization Act of Japan.

VCCI Mark Certification

TELEC Certification Mandatory Products

The TELEC Certification is the compulsory product certification for telecommunication and wireless radio products in Japan.

The Japanese Radio and Telecommunication Law covers all products which utilize the radio spectrum and operate under 3 THz. The TELEC Certification also covers products that are not communication devices such as discharge lamps and induction heating devices.

Special Specified Radio Equipment (SSRE) and Specified Radio Equipment (SRE) Examples:

  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi
  • LTE
  • GSM
  • ZigBee
  • Wireless mics
  • RFID (2.4 GHz, 920 MHz)
  • Telemeters
  • UWB radio systems

The different types of SRE are specified in the Japanese Radio Law. Consumer operated radio equipment is normally categorized as SRE.

In addition to SSRE and SRE, High Frequency Devices are another category for products under the Japanese Radio and Telecommunication Law. Some examples of these include:

  • IH cooking devices
  • Microwaves
  • Electrode-less discharge lamps
  • Welders
  • RFID (13.56 MHz)
  • Ultrasonic devices
  • Other equipment over 10 kHz (including industrial and medical devices)

Products or equipment which work with very low energy are classified as Extremely Low Power Devices and can be certified on a voluntary basis. Products with the following parameters are considered as Extremely Low Power Devices:

  • < 500 µV/m for products operating under 322 MHz or over 150 GHz
  • < 35 µV/m for 322 MHz – 10 GHz
  • < 3.5x μV/m, where x is frequency in GHz (or 500 µV/m, whichever is lower) for 10 GHz – 150 GHz
